Brahmatal Trek is considered as the ‘all in one package among a long list of trekking destinations across the country. Stretching to an expanse of 24 Km, the Brahmatal trek exposes you to some of the most magnificent Himalayan peaks such as Mt Chaukhamba, Mt Neelkanth, and Mt Hathi Ghoda among others. The diversified beauty of this trek, from glorious mountains to snow-laden trails, high-altitude serene lakes, and lush green forests, makes Brahmatal quite mesmerizing. If you are one of those people who love to pose for the gram, then you’d find this place even more compelling.

The abundance of snow makes all the moments that you spend here Insta-worthy and you’d feel a strong urge to capture all of them. For all snow fanatics who love to see sun rays illuminating the ivory surface, winters are the best time to do the Brahmatal Trek, more specifically the months of October, November, December, and January. The 6-Day 5-night trek starts from Lohajung, which is about 300 km away from Dehradun.

After an overnight stay followed by dinner at Lohajung, we will prepare for our journey ahead the next morning. In this Brahmatal trek package, we make sure that the balance between fun and adventure is always maintained and hence our trek leader gives a briefing session at the start of every day. After which, we will begin our ascend towards the peak and will be rewarded by the scenic views of Kail Valley.

By the time dusk starts to fall, we’d have reached our last stop for the day which is nestled calmly among the oak trees. We will set up camp at Bekaltal lake and retire to bed for the night. The next morning, we will proceed towards Brahmatal lake which will take us almost 5 hours after which we will settle down to take a breather and set up camp at Brahamtal lake where we will have dinner while the valleys of Nainital and Almora peek at us from the backdrop.

Finally, the day when we trek towards the Brahmatal summit and get to enjoy the most stunning view of the Himalayan peaks of the Garhwal region like Mt.Trishul and Mt Nanda Ghunti. We will set up camp at the summit and spend a night under the starry skies, surrounded by mountains before finally descending to Lohajung, concluding our trek with dinner and overnight stay at Lohajung. The next day after our morning tea, we will drive towards Rishikesh and part ways with some fond memories and a smile on our faces. Solo travelers, first-timers, as well as experienced trekkers, prefer and love Brahmatal for the sheer content it instills in your heart this is why you should do the Brahmatal trek and why it remains one of the best winter treks to do in India.

Things to Carry

One of the most common questions before any Himalayan trek is simple: what should you pack? A smart packing list keeps you comfortable on the trail without making your backpack unnecessarily heavy.

The easiest way to pack is to go step by step, either from head to toe or toe to head. That simple pattern helps you stay organized and lowers the chance of forgetting essentials.

01 Backpacks

Choose a backpack that feels comfortable on your shoulders and hips. For a week-long trek, a 60 to 70 liter backpack is usually enough for your clothing, gear, and personal essentials.
  • Main backpack: Good hip support, shoulder support, and easy-access pockets.
  • Daypack: Useful for short hikes, sightseeing, and carrying daily essentials when the main bag is not needed.
Backpacks

02 Footwear

  • Trekking shoes: Prefer waterproof shoes with high-ankle support.
  • Walking or hiking sandals: Great for camp use, resting your feet, or stream crossings.
  • Sneakers: Optional, but useful for travel days or relaxed time around camp.
  • Socks: Carry 3 to 5 pairs that are warm, comfortable, and quick-drying.
Footwear

03 Clothing Layers

  • Jacket: A good quality hiking or trekking jacket for layering.
  • Pants: Lightweight, quick-drying trekking pants, plus a warm lower layer for colder nights.
  • T-shirts and base layers: Carry 3 to 4 warm, comfortable tees along with a long-sleeve layer.
  • Thermals and leggings: Two pairs of thermals and warm leggings are ideal for cold mornings and evenings.
  • Undergarments: Pack according to your personal requirement.
  • Buff or balaclava: Essential for protecting your neck and throat from wind and cold.
  • Beanie cap and hiking hat: A beanie helps in cold weather, while a sun hat protects you during the day.
  • Gloves: One warm pair is usually enough.
Clothing Layers

04 Rain Protection

  • Raincoat and rain pants: Helpful in changing mountain weather.
  • Rain poncho: A practical option during longer spells of rain.
  • Rain covers: Carry waterproof covers for both your backpack and daypack, especially for gadgets.
Rain Protection

05 Gadgets and Useful Extras

  • Trekking poles, mobile phone, camera, and spare batteries.
  • Power bank, lightweight flashlight or headlamp, and waterproof ziplock bags for electronics.
  • Plug or converter, sunglasses, and a 1 liter water bottle.
  • A journal and pen, a good book, and a map or guidebook if you enjoy documenting the journey
Gadgets and Useful Extras

06 Hygiene and Toiletries

  • Sunscreen with UV protection and lip balm or salve.
  • Quick-drying towels, toilet paper, tissues, or wet wipes.
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, mouth freshener, shampoo, deodorant, and talcum powder.
  • Biodegradable soap, nail clipper, and any personal daily-use items.
  • Sanitary pads or tampons if needed.
Hygiene and Toiletries

07 First Aid and Energy

Carry a personal first-aid kit with the basics you may commonly need on an adventure trip, and always consult your doctor before taking any medicine.
  • Antiseptic wipes or water syringe, butterfly bandages, sterile gauze pads, and elastic bandages.
  • Latex gloves, medicines for upset stomach, cold, flu, fever, headache, and basic pain relief.
  • ORS sachets, pain relief spray, bug repellent, and any prescription medicines you already use.
  • Medicine for high altitude concerns such as Diamox or a similar alternative, only after medical advice.
  • Carry some energy bars and non-alcoholic energy drinks for quick support on the trail.
